One of the best double-bills ever seen in Cork will have Neil Young and Elvis Costello playing in the city next summer. An announcement on Friday morning revealed that both veterans would play Musgrave Park (Virgin Media Park) on July 1, 2026.

Neil Young will come to Leeside backed by the Chrome Hearts, the same band he played an impressive gig with at Malahide Castle in Dublin earlier this year. Highlights of that set included old favourites such as The Needle and The Damage Done, Like a Hurricane, and Rockin' In The Free World.

The Canadian rocker, recently turned 80, last played Cork in 2014 at Live at the Marquee, a venue he’d also played in 2008.

Elvis Costello, 71, also appeared at the Marquee in 2013, and had been an occasional visitor to Cork in previous decades. His first appearance in the county was at the Macroom Mountain Dew Festival in 1981, in an era when the Londoner had emerged as one of the most talented songwriters of the UK's postpunk generation with hits such as Alison, Watching the Detectives, and Oliver’s Army.

In 1986, Costello also joined The Pogues onstage at a memorable gig in the famed Sir Henrys venue on South Main Street, as he’d been on the tour with his then wife, bass-player Cait O’Riordan.

The appearance of Young and Costello adds to a summer roster at the Ballyphehane venue that also includes CMAT, The Lumineers, Amble, and Kingfishr.

Tickets for the July 1 gig will cost €89.90 to €99.90, plus booking fees.

A series of pre-sales for Young and Costello will take place before the general sale on Friday, November 28. Tickets are available Monday, November 24, for members of the Neil Young Archives, the singer’s project that gathers all his output through the years.

Mastercard cardholders have a presale on Wednesday, Nov 26, and a presale for those registered with promoters MCD takes place on Thursday.
