Everyman Theatre, Cork, Wednesday, August 27 

Five-person international dance and circus troupe Kundle Cru, led by Matt Szczerek, come to The Everyman to premiere Birds for one night only ahead of a run at Dublin Fringe Festival in September. 

Taking a bird’s-eye view of modern-day life, the show uses hip-hop, contemporary dance, and circus moves to ask: What plan can we hatch to make things better for ourselves?

A ‘contemporary western’, Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix) runs for mayor in a small New Mexico town during the covid pandemic. 

When George Floyd’s murder sparks protests, the town is swept into turmoil, as neighbour is pitted against neighbour in Eddington.

 Ari Aster directs this sprawling drama — he’s divisive, responsible for Midsommar and the three-hour Beau is Afraid. Emma Stone, Micheal Ward, Deirdre O’Connell, and Pedro Pascal also star.

Killyon Manor, Co Meath, Saturday-Sunday, August 23-24 

The team behind last week’s Love is a Stranger festival in Ballyvolane House were straight into setting up for the best little boutique festival in the country, Another Love Story. 

Slimmed back to two days this year, fewer than 2,000 will dance the night away to the likes of John Talabot and Cian Ó Cíobhán, with plenty of folk acts also on the bill.

Over the last month, volunteers in East Cork have been busy creating a giant hand-dyed, embroidered, and appliqued tablecloth for a special community gathering and picnic in Glenbower Woods. 

The Gather Round textile project has been spearheaded by Greywood Arts, with workshops held on upcycling heirloom fabrics, natural indigo dyeing techniques, embroidery, and raw edge appliqué during the month of August. 

It will all be unveiled at the Gather Round picnic on crafted community tablecloth in Glenbower Woods.

Cork Opera House, Tuesday-Saturday, August 26-30 

The Rocky Horror Show is the story of squeaky clean college kids Brad and fiancee Janet. When by a twist of fate, their car breaks down outside a creepy mansion on their way to visit their former college professor, they meet the charismatic Dr Frank-n-Furter. Directed by Christopher Luscombe,The Rocky Horror Show comes to Cork Opera House as part of a new world tour, with Jennifer Zamparelli starring as the Narrator.
