Five For Your Radar: Podcast fest and French films and podcasts in Cork
How to Gael is at Triskel on Friday, March 7; and right, Gracie Abrams plays 3Arena, Dublin on Monday.
One of our favourite podcasts, having started up in 2023, broadcasters Doireann Ní Ghlacáin, Louise Cantillon, and Síomha Ní Ruairc stop off in Cork for the penultimate date of their Ar an mBothar tour. We don’t think your foclóir is necessary, though you might learn (or relearn) some Irish words during the show — and you can expect plenty of laughs.
Bringing the best of French-language cinema to Cork audiences, the 36th edition of the festival was directed and programmed by Valerie David-McGonnell and Josselin Le Gall. As well as some memorable screenings over the weekend, there is a tribute to the great French actor and director Michel Blanc, who died last October 2024. wraps things up on Sunday (8pm).

Presented as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, this original musical, featuring over 20 songs, is about Gobnait, the patron saint of the Gaeltacht village of Baile Mhúirne, and was written by Seán Óg Ó Duinnín, Alan Kiely, and Kevin Connolly. Divided into two halves, it is staged by Cumann Léirithe Bhéal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh/Ballingeary Productions Society and features a cast of 30 on stage plus an orchestra.
A week after Sabrina Carpenter graced the stage, the 3Arena welcomes another next-big-thing in Taylor Swift-approved singer-songwriter — and daughter of creator JJ Abrams — Gracie Abrams. Having enjoyed a stellar rise over the past five years, it’s not her first time in Ireland — she was in West Cork over Christmas, where her boyfriend Paul Mescal has a home.
Promoters the Good Room have moved their annual podcast festival up in the calendar from its previous autumnal slot. They kick things off with the Blindboy Podcast next Thursday, as he returns to the Opera House. With over 80m downloads since starting up the podcast in 2017, he told the Irish Examiner last month his listenership is not just Irish, but global. Expect an engrossing evening.
