Listen, I’m Delicious

Social media star Garron Noone has started a food-focused show, Listen, I’m Delicious (Headstuff) where he “dives deep into conversations about life, food, and some seriously tantalising topics, such as ‘Which biscuit is really the best, and why?’”

Guests in the first month of the show are fellow social media comedian Michael Fry, fellow Mayo podcaster Alan Clarke, TikTok star Lauren Whelan, ‘Shite talking fool who makes food’ Ciarán Dunne, and Galway restaurateur JP McMahon. Episodes range from 30 to 50 minutes with Noone offering his tasty takes on dishes small and mouth-wateringly big.

His opening monologue finds him waxing lyrical about breakfast items such as the de rigeur jumbo breakfast roll as well as the real reason corn flakes were invented. He also explains that he has a fear of McMuffins. We won’t spoil it but he has a recurring dream where he’s abducted by aliens whom he befriends: “We had an understanding.” Yada yada yada, “I can’t eat McMuffins now because I associate them with being abducted by aliens.” Noone hasn’t put a foot wrong yet and a podcast seems the next logical step for his brand.

You Had Me at Hello

Vicki Notaro, a former magazine editor and author of Reality Check, is in the midst of the debut season of You Had Me at Hello (Chemistry Podcasts). She has a degree in film studies that she says she’s finally putting to good use as she interviews a familiar slate of names about their favourite romantic comedies as well as tragedies, bonkbusters, tearjerkers, weepies, and teen movies. “The whole spectrum of life is alive in romantic comedies - and every story is a love story, really,” she declares.

So far she’s had Poor author Katriona O’Sullivan on to talk about Pretty Woman, done Titanic with James Kavanagh, 10 Things I Hate About You with Jenni Claffey, and Jerry Maguire with Paul Howard.

Young Hot Guys

Another podcast featuring social media comedians/stars but running a year now - November marks its first anniversary - is Young Hot Guys (Headstuff). It comprises Daniel Byrne, Tony Cantwell (whose new show on the RTÉ Player, Good Boy, has been getting great reviews), and Killian Sundermann (who’s got a book out that should do well in the Christmas market, CountryFail). They offer gentle banter over the course of 45-minute to hour-long episodes, their conversations bouncing around, peppered with laughter. It can be a little difficult to keep track of their similar voices and you might get lost if you drift off for a minute or two of chat, but you’ll keep coming back for more.
