Cork actor Jack Gleeson, Happy Valley's James Norton, and Masters of the Air star Anthony Boyle are among the confirmed cast members of a new Netflix series based on the history of the Guinness family.

House of Guinness, an original series from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is set in 19th century Dublin and New York, and chronicles the lives of the Guinness family after the 1868 death of Benjamin Lee Guinness, who oversaw the expansion of the iconic brewery that bears the family name..

Boyle, Louis Partridge, who recently featured in Netflix's Enola Holmes, Emily Fairn, who appeared in both seasons of the BBC's acclaimed drama The Responder, and Normal People star Fionn O'Shea will portray Benjamin's four adult children: Arthur, Edward, Anna and Ben.

The cast also features, amongst others, Gleeson, best known for his work as King Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, Happy Valley's James Norton, Dervla Kirwan, Niamh McCormack, Danielle Gilligan, and Kilda Fay.

Rounding out the cast are David Wilmot, who recently starred in the West Cork-based Netflix series Bodkin, Seamus O'Hara, who starred in the Oscar-winning short film An Irish Goodbye, and Michael McElhatton who portrayed Roose Bolton in Game of Thrones.

According to Netflix, the series will "explore an epic story inspired by one of Europe's most famous and enduring dynasties".

Steven Knight said that he was thrilled to be working with "an exceptional cast and such an exceptional team to tell this story inspired by an exceptional family".

"Steve Knight’s scripts read like pages torn out of a classic novel, spinning the story of the four heirs to the Guinness fortune, and how their lives and loves are changed by it overnight," said Netflix vice president of UK content, Anne Mensah.

Karen Wilson, joint managing director of Kudos, the production company behind the series, said that given the credentials of the cast and show's creator, "Netflix audiences around the world are in for a real treat".

"We’re in the very early stages of filming, but I already know this is going to be an unmissable drama," she said.
