Film

The Fall Guy

In cinemas Friday, May 2

Ryan Gosling is back to remind us that he's not just Ken.

Joined by Emily Blunt, the Barbenheimer 'feud' is laid to rest. The pair bounce off each other wonderfully in this action comedy.

The film is loosely based on an 80s TV show starring Lee Majors, who makes an appearance.

This film is a fun, easy watch with charismatic leads with great chemistry.

The perfect lead-in to the summer blockbusters heading our way.

TV

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Sky Atlantic/Now TV, available now

Based on Heather Morris's hugely popular book of the same name, this six-part series has been greatly anticipated.

The story, which centres around a real-life Jewish couple who lived through WWII, is sadly reflective of the world we live in today.

The six-part series is slow moving but this means that the audience has to really sit with what is unfolding before them.

Festival

Ballydehob Jazz Festival

Ballydehob, West Cork; Friday, May 3 - Monday, May 6

This music festival is an absolute treat and a great way to spend the bank holiday weekend.

It is made up of mostly free events making it a great idea for families.

There will be over 30 performances over the weekend from some of the best bands from Ireland and abroad.

One highlight is Pirate Taxi, an outdoor circus show built on an old-school London taxi and featuring an aerial show and live music.

Gig

Simple Kid

Cyprus Avenue, Cork, Sunday, May 5

After a little 10-year detour into that wonderful world of Real Life, Simple Kid made his surprise return to the music scene in 2022.

Simple Kid, aka Cork musician Kieran Mac Feely.
Simple Kid, aka Cork musician Kieran Mac Feely.

One of Cork's favourite kids, he may not have quite lived up to the lofty expectations that followed his debut album but he has never lost his loyal following.

The release of Simple Kid 3 was met with great joy and his return to the stage is sure to bring a mix of nostalgia and excitement for what is to come.

Comedy

Shane Daniel Byrne: But He's Gay

Everyman Theatre, Cork, Saturday, May 4

A rapidly rising star on the Irish comedy scene, Shane Daniel Byrne makes his Cork debut this week.

He has already performed his award-winning shows at both the Dublin and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals.

A former actor, Byrne will be taking on the daunting task of self-reflection and hopes to identify just what exactly is wrong with him.

Fantastically funny, this show is almost too relatable for those in their mid-30s and still trying to figure out their grown-up life.
