HBO Max and internationally renowned US TV Host and Comedian, Conan O’Brien makes his Irish TV Drama debut with TG4’s long running drama series Ros na Rún

US TV host and comedian Conan O’Brien is set to make his Irish TV drama debut with a cameo in TG4’s Ros na Rún.

The 60-year-old will play a feisty delivery man who goes head-to-head with Ros na Rún’s village rogue and publican, Tadhg Ó Direáin.

Viewers are promised a “war with words” between the pair in Tigh Thaidhg, but fans will have to wait and see if Tadhg throws the legendary TV personality out of his pub.

The episode — which airs on Tuesday, April 30 — was filmed in early January while O’Brien was visiting Ireland with HBO Max for a travel show.

O’Brien, who has often spoken about his Irish roots, visited his ancestral home of Galbally, Co Limerick as part of the trip before heading to the set of Ros na Rún in An Spidéal in the Connemara Gaeltacht.

While very proud of his Irish heritage, the famous comedian had his work cut out for him with a cameo as Gaeilge.

“Getting to work with the cast and crew of Ros Na Rún was a delightful highlight of my trip to Ireland, and I apologise in advance for inadvertently butchering my Mother Tongue,” he said.

While HBO’s Conan O’Brien features alongside Tadhg O’Direáin in Ros na Rún on Tuesday, April 30 at 8.30pm, the TG4 show will also feature on HBO Max’s Conan O’Brien Must Go on April 18 bringing the Irish language and rural drama series to a new international audience.

According to those on set, Conan O’Brien fully immersed himself behind the scenes of the Irish language drama, which is now in its 28th season. He enjoyed the craic and banter in hair and make-up, as well as with the cast and crew.

Conan O’Brien is now added to Ros na Rún’s celebrity cameo hall of fame which already includes actor Stephen Fry, country music legends Daniel O’Donnell and Nathan Carter and more.

Ros na Rún is broadcast twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday at 8.30pm on TG4 with an omnibus on Sunday evening at 7.30pm and is also available on the TG4 and RTÉ players.
