Kneecap are being hyped for big things in 2024, but the Belfast hip-hop group looked like they’ve very much made it already as they rounded out 2023 with a gig at a busy Cork City Hall on Friday night.

The trio were treading a stage previously played by the likes of Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott, but their republican leanings also ensure they’re rapping from the same hymn sheet as Terence MacSwiney and Tomás MacCurtain, the Independence-era lord mayors whose statues sit at the entrance of this storied venue.
