The bandmates of late Aslan frontman Christy Dignam have confirmed that a new singer will be joining the group, but added they are “in no way a replacement for Christy”.
Dignam died in June after a long battle with cancer and his family has organised a tribute gig in his memory. Aslan will not be among the lineup.
In their statement, the band say they “have spent the last number of months grieving the loss of their dear friend and band mate. They have been trying, and continue to try to find their own way of coming to terms with their huge loss.”
They also confirmed a new singer, who will be revealed soon, will join the band for their return to the stage in 2024.

“The lads have decided to embark on a new chapter and to mark that there will be a new singer joining them. In no way are they a replacement for Christy as this is absolutely impossible, there will never be another Christy Dignam.”
They said the decision to return to performing was not taken lightly but they are looking forward to the next stage of their journey.
“The lads want to get back to doing what they love most, playing their music. Aslan will be back in 2024 and we know Christy would be proud to hear and see what's to come.
“Joe, Alan and Billy are so looking forward to seeing all their loyal fans again. It will be very emotional but having the most devoted fans imaginable will make the next stage of their journey that bit easier to embark on.”
Christy Dignam: A Celebration will celebrate Dignam's life and music, and will feature Irish artists performing Dignam's songs. The gig takes place in Vicar Street on Friday, May 3, with tickets going on sale Monday at 9am from Ticketmaster.
