Cork actor Cillian Murphy has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Oppenheimer, while Dubliners Barry Keoghan and Andrew Scott are also nominated in the same category.

Murphy plays physicist J Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s film. Oppenheimer was the man who headed a team of scientists to design the world’s first atomic bomb during the Second World War.

His co-stars Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr and director Christopher Nolan are also among the nominees.

Barry Keoghan is nominated for his role as undergrad Oliver Quick in Saltburn, while Andrew Scott has been recognised for his performance in All Of Us Strangers, which also stars Paul Mescal.

The category also sees Leonardo DiCaprio up for his role in Killers Of The Flower Moon, Bradley Cooper for Maestro and Colman Domingo for Rustin.

Poor Things, which is produced by Ireland’s Element Pictures, has been nominated in multiple categories, including Best Picture, Musical or Comedy as well as a best actress nod for Emma Stone. The film is being mooted for a huge run at awards season, including multiple Oscars nominations.

Margot Robbie was also recognised for best female actor in a musical or comedy for her starring role in Barbie, with Greta Gerwig receiving a nod for best director.

Three songs from the Barbie film were up for best song, including Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night and What Was I Made For? from Billie Eilish.

The Golden Globes are the first major awards ceremony of the season and nominees were announced via live stream from Los Angeles.
