Michelle Darmody: Blackcurrants and blackberries
I have had an accidental glut of dark berries this week. After just having removed a large box of blackcurrants from my freezer, a friend called by and bestowed a pudding bowl full of blackberries. They were freshly picked from her garden and the very last of the season.
When I think of blackcurrants I automatically think jam. It is one of my favourites, I love its sharpness of flavour and the way the little globes burst under the knife as I spread it on a buttered scone.
