Children are finding it more and more difficult to cope with adversity, writes Richard Hogan.

Recently, in my brother’s house, my little nephew Charlie said to my daughter Hannah, when the doorbell rang, “Careful Hannah, these guys are rough”. He was referring to the neighbour’s boys who were calling over for a play date.
