The Hobbit cost twice as much as Lord of the Rings trilogy

Making The Hobbit film trilogy has so far cost €412m and counting, double the amount spent on the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy.

That figure includes the major shoots with actors, although there will likely be additional post-production costs as the next two movies are completed.
