There will always be someone on the internet who doesn't think things through all the way before posting.

The wave of stupidity was first spotted by Richard Gaywood, a software engineer and technology journalist, and boy, is it a mis-step.

Outraged by the idea that people can be stupid online, other Twitter users started harassing the poor souls who made this error.

Some of those accounts are deleted now, some are private, and others are trying to point out what a joke is.

And lest you're confused, the United States is about 237 years old. Still a whippersnapper in global terms.
