Jamie Foxx would love to replace Simon Cowell on 'American Idol'.

The singer-and-actor insists he hasn't yet been approached to take over from the music mogul when he departs the US talent search TV show at the end of its current run - but thinks it would be an easy opportunity to make a lot of money.

He said: "Everybody keeps asking me. Of course I would take over for Mr Cowell, if they officially ask, I'm there. I'm just waiting. I just think it's amazing that on 'American Idol' those guys like Simon and my man, Randy Jackson, make so much dough from watching people that are talented.

"That's amazing to me and I could sit there and listen just like they do."

Meanwhile, current judge Kara DioGuardi thinks Simon's replacement needs to be a music expert, dismissing speculation DJ Howard Stern is set to take over.

She told America's OK! magazine: "Right now, that's a rumour. I don't think he has musical background or any kind of music anything and I think if you're going to replace Simon, you have to have that background.

"You have to be somebody who knows about signing great artists and being a part of their career from the very beginning to the very end which he's done with people like Leona Lewis, who he spotted early on and nurtured and turned them into big stars."

"I think that's probably a precursor for whoever takes that position, if they're not a big artist who's been through it themselves."

Despite his enthusiasm, Jamie recently admitted he is unsure he would have the time to work on the show.

He said: "I would love to do it, but I don't think I would be able to do it. I don't think I could fill Simon's shoes, but I would give it another perspective... what I want is for the kids to go from being contest participants to artists, and that's where I would come in."
