Mendes drawn to dark material

'Revolutionary Road' and 'American Beauty' director Sam Mendes says he always prefers to make movies of a bleak nature, even though his ideals away from work are much different.

Mendes - who is set to release new movie 'Away We Go' - said: "I'm drawn to dark material, but I'm not a pessimistic person. Even though I'm very proud of 'Revolutionary Road', I'm not a Yatesian by nature. I'm not someone who believes men and women are destined to forever be apart and everything will eventually dissolve."
