Crowe's hotel fracas apology 'humiliating'

Russell Crowe was "humiliated" at being forced to apologise on TV for his infamous hotel phone-throwing attack.

The Gladiator star, frustrated about his inability to call his wife, Danielle, in Australia, threw the phone at a New York concierge last June. He later reached an out-of-court settlement with the clerk.

Despite admitting his culpability, Crowe insists his worst memory of the incident is being forced to pretend he was upset by his actions.

His publicist Jack Marx reveals: "It was humiliating, he said, to have to show remorse when all he was truly sorry about was the fact that he was in so much trouble.

"The concierge said: 'Yeah, yeah, whatever.' (Crowe saw that as) the lowest insult."
