Witherspoon wasted in dull drama
Reese Weatherspoon is rather lost in Vanity Fair (Universal), a rather indifferent reworking of Thackeray’s splendid novel about a woman (Becky Sharp) adept in the art of playing men at their own game in 19th century Britain.
Mira Nair’s direction fails to handle the poor adaptation, while a strong cast is left struggling to fill the gaps.
