Allen helped reunite America and France

Director Woody Allen has branded the conflict between America and France "ridiculous" and believes he helped reunite the feuding countries by promoting gallic culture to America last year.

The star was disappointed by the animosity between the two nations - over their conflicting beliefs about the war in Iraq - so he tried to bring them back together by reminding them of their shared cinematic history.
