Streisand 'bored by her songs'
Barbra Streisand gave up performing stage shows because she was bored by her own songs, she disclosed today.
The veteran singer said that after recording an album she would not listen to any of its numbers for a decade because she would be so fed up with them.
She said: “Really, I just get sick of it. That’s why I gave up concerts – in addition to having stage fright and the exertion of singing 30 songs a night. It’s boring to sing your own songs.”
Streisand, 61, gave up public performances in September 2000, although she sang at a Democratic fundraising event in Hollywood last year.
Her new album is due out next month but there was little chance of a return to the stage, she said.
She told the October edition of Reader’s Digest she enjoyed creating and directing a stage show, “except that you have to do it, you have to perform it”.
