Tarantino 'fighting depression for three years'

Quentin Tarantino has admitted battling depression in the three years since he made his last film, Jackie Brown.

“It was getting hard to do a lot of things,” Tarantino, whose new film, Kill Bill, is due out next month, tells the latest issue of Vanity Fair magazine. “I’ve been there when I’ve been the loser and it’s a lot better to be the winner.”

A friend of the filmmaker is quoted in the magazine as saying Tarantino would become absorbed in watching bad films on television.

“His eyes would be glued to the tube,” he said. “You could be showing him anything – a white screen – and he’d be like a kid with a pacifier, a lonely boy. It was sad and beautiful at the same time.”
