Comedian Alexei Sayle apologised today after making “offensive” comments about the Hillsborough football disaster.

The former Young Ones star was promoting his new novel at the Edinburgh International Book Festival when he mocked the “sentimentality” which followed the 1989 disaster in which 96 people died.
