Acid tongued Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell was licking his wounds today after his new TV dating show in the United States flopped in the ratings.

Despite a massive publicity blitz, the first episode of Cupid attracted just 7.4 million viewers this week, five million fewer than a repeat of the legal drama Law and Order shown at the same time.
