Arnold Schwarzenegger’s dream of becoming the governor of California have taken a boost after opponents of current governor Gray Davis said they had collected enough supporters to force a recall election.

Republican campaigners said more than a million people had signed a petition to have the Democrat incumbent thrown out of office, just one year after he was re-elected.
