Mel Gibson has spoken for the first time about his controversial film The Passion, rebutting criticism that it is anti-Catholic and anti-Semitic.

“To be certain, neither I nor my film is anti-Semitic,” he said in a statement about the film, which depicts the last 12 hours in the life of Jesus Christ.
