t.A.T.u keep outfits under wraps for Eurovision show
Russian pop duo t.A.T.u are favourites to triumph at the Eurovision Song Contest – but all attention will not be on what they sing tonight.
The 18-year-old pair, who claim to be lesbian lovers, may well put on a raunchy display which could see their performance taken off air in the live show.
Organisers said earlier this week that if the show became too steamy they would instead air footage from the rehearsals.
The sulky pair were threatened with disqualification when they stormed off stage as they practised, complaining of a sore throat, but they eventually carried on.
Then at Thursday’s rehearsal in the Latvian capital Riga they flouted rules by turning up in jeans rather than their full stage costume, but bosses of the kitsch event let then continue.
The girls are refusing to say what they have planned for the night, saying viewers will just have to wait and see.
British hopes rest on Liverpudlian duo Jemini – singers Chris Cromby and Gemma Abbey – with their song Cry Baby.
It was written by composer Martin Isherwood, head of music at sir Paul McCartney’s fame school, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
Terry Wogan will be again hosting the live show for BBC1 at 8pm, while Lorraine Kelly will for the first time be reading out the UK’s voting. She replaces Colin Berry who has done so for 25 years.
More than 100 million viewers are expected to see the show across Europe.
t.A.T.u have aroused controversy with their sexy image, kissing during performances and dressing as schoolgirls.
There have been suggestions that they may perform their song Don’t Believe, Don’t Fear, Don’t Ask naked.
