Spike Milligan's daughter Jane kept up the family connection with his classic comic novel Puckoon; not only did she attend the Irish Premiere at this year's Galway Film Fleadh, but she has a cameo role in the story of life along the Irish border in the l920s.

Spike, one of the funniest men around and, of course, a member of the groundbreaking Goon Show on BBC Radio, spent four years writing Puckoon, it was published in l964, and claimed it nearly drove him mad. It would, he vowed, be "his first and last novel."
