The Streets are streets ahead in Mercury betting

Garage act The Streets were favourites to win the eclectic Mercury Music Prize tonight, which is handed out to the year’s top British album.

The act – basically Mike Skinner – immediately emerged as the frontrunner with debut Original Pirate Material as the 12-strong short-list was announced in July.
