Hollywood actor Russell Crowe has apologised to the television executive he reportedly confronted in an ugly clash after his Bafta award acceptance speech was cut from a broadcast, it has emerged.

The movie star rang Malcom Gerrie, chief executive of Initial, the production company behind the ceremony, on Saturday to say he had been ‘‘overbearing’’ and used ‘‘strong language’’.
