The image of an elderly couple holding hands in the face of death has struck a chord with many after it was shared by the couple’s granddaughter, just hours before her grandmother passed away.

The picture was posted on the popular social media site Reddit with the caption: "My Grandma, 96, with my Grandpa, 100, hours before her death this weekend. 77 years of marriage."
