Prank reveals how much info a Facebook like can give away

You may never like another page on Facebook again after watching this hidden camera prank. A coffee shop attracted customers by offering them a free drink and a croissant just for liking their Facebook page.

Once the prank victim liked the page, a team of researchers spent just a couple of minutes trying to track down information available on public websites. They then trasmitted this to the barista who wrote everything down on the coffee mug, including things like interests, their occupation, age, and more. And to think, Starbucks can't even get names right half the time!

The video ends with the message, "Don't make it easy for fraudsters. Set your privacy settings," and refers viewers to its website for more information. The whole thing was put together by Cifas, a UK-based non-profit organisation that tackles fraud prevention. It may make you think twice about your privacy settings and how much you share online.

Chief executive of Cifas, Simon Dukes, issued a stern warning in a press release. "The likes of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other online platforms are much more than just social media sites — they are now a hunting ground for identity thieves," he said. "We are urging people to check their privacy settings today and think twice about what they share."
