The latest iOS beta for WhatsApp indicates that users will soon be able to send and receive animated GIFs.

WhatsApp finally bringing GIFs to iOS

It’s a long time coming; WhatsApp’s rivals, including Facebook Messenger, Viber, and Slack, already allow users to do so. Twitter account @WABetaInfo tracks WhatsApp changes and notes that the next version of the app will autoplay GIF links and embed the images directly into your conversations. Users will also be able to save GIFs as ā€œa simple image,ā€ according to The Next Web.

WhatsApp is also rumoured to be adding video chat to its messenging service. Screenshots of this feature in action have been posted online, but we’re yet to see it added to the app.
