Does the new Thief actually have Anything to Do with Thievery?
Let’s take the game’s launch trailer as an example.
Garret asks a boat man if he believes in ghosts before going on to admit he’s ‘been a ghost all his life’. Maybe he’s literally a ghost! Couple this with the fact he’s dressed like a sodding ninja (worth stressing) and quite boastfully carries a bow and quiver full of arrows and I’m pretty convinced the man’s a phantom assassin. Also Garret has amnesia. He’s lost a year of his life or events from a year ago seem hazy or whatever. Basically, the dude’s memory is f*cked. So if he don’t know what he is, then how am I supposed to put it together?! AND NOW THERE’S MAGIC! You’ve got your druids, you’ve got your chanting, you’ve got your mystical lights. To clarify, I gots no beef with magical druids. But unless their robes are lined with diamonds, why should a Master Thief care what voodoo they’re cooking.
Because you cook voodoo, now…Oh, maybe Garret will steal their voodoo pot. I’ll stop now.
I think Thief looks like a cracking ride. All those little robbery animations are the business, the traversal feels fun and fluid, vertical level design accommodates variant play styles and for all their palpable menace, those different affow-heads should be a laugh. Besides, if nothing else, after Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Eidos Montreal could serve up a polished turd and I’d still be positively disposed towards it.All I’m saying is for a dude who makes his money by sneakily relieving valuable possessions of their owners, Garret sure like to make a bloody song and dance about it!!!The new Thief Launch trailer does a good job of setting the scene but not so much informing the player of what to expect in terms of thievery
