Irish Rail are upgrading their lines so the journey between Cork and Dublin will be smoother and the trains will be faster.

They are hoping to achieve consistent speeds of 160km/hr (or a more round figure of 100m/hr) - but, alas, it won't be nearly as fast as this.

They have uploaded a mesmerising timelapse video of the journey from Dublin to Cork to YouTube, and we're envious of how quickly the journey finishes.

We can't wait until the (hopefully) not-so-distant future, when we're whizzing around the country at warp speed on a train.
