SPELLING is important. For example, nothing gives a worse impression in a job application or in a CV than to see several words misspelled (or is it mispelled or maybe even misspeled?).

If you write an essay or a short story, your marks will be improved if all the words are spelled correctly, and recently on a TV show I learned that there are two other unlikely benefits of knowing how to spell well.

The first is that bogus emails trying to cheat you often contain words that are spelled incorrectly. The second is that counterfeit designer clothes, sports gear, and watches often have the brand name wrongly spelled.
