New kids on the beauty block
The brand: Revlon
The campaign: Part of Thompson’s prize is to front a Revlon campaign, and we currently see her unconventional beauty adorning the ad visuals for the brand’s autumn winter cosmetics, which includes the must-have polish, Facets of Fuchsia, €9
What the bloggers say: “I think she’s the most interesting face to ever win,” says Dawn Hill of Cork blog skinnipeach.com. Dubliner Sinead Smith from vivaadonis.com likes the fact that she’s a new type of role model. “I think every redheaded child suffers catcalls of “ginger” and hopefully having a redhead win a competition like this will help quash those playground taunts!” Thompson’s decency in a sea of vacuity shone through, too. “Her quirky look really appeals to me and she seems like a really nice girl, which is always refreshing to see,” commented Deirdre Foley, also blogging at Viva Adonis. Laura Fitzgibbon, a Cork-based blogger who owns FitznBitz.com, agreed that this was a big part of her appeal. “If she’s liked I think people would be more inclined to watch out for her or be interested to look at a product that her face is on.”
The face: Georgia May Jagger, daughter of Rolling Stone Mick and model Jerry Hall
The brand: Rimmel London
The campaign: that famous pout makes her a winner for lipstick ads, but her next assignment is as the eyes of a new mascara, Scandaleyes, €8.55
What the bloggers say: Gorgeous looking is the consensus, but Laura’s not convinced at her universal appeal. “I feel like she’s just a newer, younger version of Kate Moss.” For Dawn, she’s got the all-important pull to counter. “She definitely makes me want to buy Rimmel and if I was to start my own skin care line and needed an effortless, natural beauty to get my brand out there, it would be her!” Deirdre thinks that when it comes to representing ‘the London look’, Georgia’s a shoe-in. “She’s young, fresh and interesting.” For Sinead, her appeal lies in the fact that she doesn’t have classic features. “She is changing the idea of what is considered beautiful in modern society.”
The face: Emma Watson, Harry Potter alumni, now making the transition to fashion and beauty campaigns and serious acting roles
The brand: Lancôme
The campaign: Watson is fronting Trésor Midnight Rose, from €39, a new version of the classic scent
What the bloggers say: “Smart move on Lancôme’s part,” says Laura, though everyone polled found the appointment a surprising one, particularly Dawn. But Watson’s new job title did make some think twice. “The Trésor fragrances have always, perhaps wrongly, struck me as more mature scents. When I heard that [she] was fronting the campaign for Midnight Rose, I felt compelled to give them all another sniff when I was next passing a Lancôme counter, which speaks for itself,” says Sinead. So will she make the younger girls buy the brand’s products? “I have no doubt that she’ll help rejuvenate the image of Trésor and attract legions of youngsters to the perfume,” confirms Deirdre.
