THERE are two moments I will remember. The first, when I was a child, was John F Kennedy’s assassination; the second, 10 years ago, where I was on 9/11.

Both were seismic events; both ensured the world would never be the same again. The first presaged an end to my childish innocence, the second that America could never be invulnerable again.

Like millions of New Yorkers on September 11, 2001, I had been enjoying a beautiful autumn day, which suddenly turned to unspeakable tragedy.
