The yard and outbuildings of 73-acre farm at Bunkilla, Donoughmore, Co Cork.

Located in the renowned dairying stronghold around Donoughmore village in mid-Cork, a 73-acre farm is new to the market with Blarney-based auctioneer Dan Fleming.

The property in question is currently all in grass but the land here has proven its worth as both part of a tillage farm and as part of a dairying operation.

The farm is at Bunkilla, 5km southeast of Donoughmore, about 25km from Mallow and 20km from Cork City.

“It’s a lovely farm,” says Mr Fleming. “It was part of a larger holding at one time and this is the portion which is bounded by road and it was the main part where the milking parlour and sheds were.”

The farmyard with its collection of outbuildings is one of the strong selling points of this attractive holding. The buildings include a silage pit, a milking parlour, additional sheds and a lean-to structure.

“This is dual-purpose land,” adds Mr Fleming, pointing out that although it is currently under grass, it was once one of many farms in the area that supported agri-industry for the sugar beet factory in Mallow.

“It can be used for tillage or grass. This is a big dairying area, of course but this land was let for tillage over the years as well, so it has a proven track record in both… when the sugar beet industry was in full flight.”

There is a good level of interest in the property, he says, although that is likely to increase over the next month or so as the more active part of the agricultural land season kicks in.

“There have been a good number of enquiries so far, and we’d expect more towards the end of February and the start of March.”

There is a small portion (circa 11 acres) of forestry on the property too — a Sitka spruce plantation that’s ready for harvest.

This is very much a holding that will find its own price level in a sought-after area, with an expectation in the region of €15,000-€18,000/acre.
