Grade E pig prices slide to €1.48/kg amid softening market
The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week three was €1.48/kg (excluding VAT), back -3.1% on the previous week.
There was no change to Irish pig prices on Friday last, following a 4c/kg reduction reported across the market the previous week. Producers are reporting a range of prices in the Republic, in particular, under the Rosderra graded pricing system.
The average pig price for pigs slaughtered this week in the Republic of Ireland now stands between €1.74/kg and €1.78/kg, although some farmers are securing prices above this average in factories in the North.
The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week three was €1.48/kg (excluding VAT), back -3.1% on the previous week. Compared with the previous month, prices are -6.6% lower and sit -18.6% below the same period last year.
The weekly throughput reported by the Department of Agriculture for the week ending January 25 was 69,674 head, of which 1,691 were sows.
Ireland’s percentage of the EU price is 116% of the EU average price, as reported to the EU Commission for the week commencing January 17.
Factory pig throughput in Republic of Ireland export plants for the week ending January 25 was 69,674 head, which was 2,649 fewer than last week and 300 more than the same week last year.
