Domestic milk intake in the 11 months to November 2025 up 5%
Domestic milk intake was estimated at 8.58 billion litres from January to November 2025, a rise of 419.1 million litres on 2024’s figures.
Domestic milk intake rose by 5.1% in the 11 months from January to November 2025 when compared to the previous year's figures.
According to the latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) report, domestic milk intake was estimated at 8.58 billion litres from January to November 2025, a rise of 419.1 million litres on 2024’s figures, and up 326.7 million litres (4%) when compared with 2023.

Domestic milk intake by milk processors and co-ops was estimated at 500.4 million litres in November 2025, a fall of 2.3% (11.9 million litres) when compared to the same month in 2024, and up 31.1% (118.7 million litres) in the same period in 2023.
Fat content for November 2025 was up at 5.12% compared to the November 2024 figure of 4.99%. Protein content also rose from 3.98% in November 2024 to 4.03% in November 2025.
Butter production increased slightly, from 17,800 tonnes produced in November 2024 to 18,000 tonnes in November 2025, an increase of 200 tonnes.
Skimmed milk powder rose by 2,000 tonnes between 2024 and 2025. In November 2024, 7,5000 tonnes of skimmed milk powder were produced, and last year it rose to 9,500 tonnes.
Total milk sold for human consumption grew from 38.6 million litres in November 2024 to 39.4 million litres. From that 39.4 million litres sold, 23.5 million litres were whole milk sales and 15.9 million litres were from skimmed and semi-skimmed milk sales.
Ireland experienced the second largest increase in percentage change in milk intake in the EU at 5.6% change when comparing the January to October 2024 figures to the January to October 2025 figures.
