Another set of properties featured on these pages in recent weeks were sold under the hammer on Tuesday, October 14, at the offices of P.F. Quirke & Co in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
The three properties were all in the vicinity of Drangan village in South Tipperary.
The first holding up was a 14.88-acre land parcel with an old stone house at Ballyluskey. Opening at €200,000 and with only one bidder, it was withdrawn but sold subsequently for a “substantially higher” figure.
The next lot was a 6.1-acre parcel at Cloughtaney. With multiple bidders in the room, the hammer fell on a price of €120,000 (€20,000/acre).
The largest block was a 36-acre holding at Newtowndrangan. Described by auctioneer Pat Quirke as “good quality land in nice divisions”, it opened at €500,000 and sold for €700,000 (€19,400/acre).
“The vendors were very happy with the prices achieved,” said Pat afterwards, “being in the region of €19,500 to €20,000/acre — a new record for Drangan land.
“The auction was very well attended by local parties, generating healthy demand. The buyers of the various lots are local dairy farmers looking to expand their platform.”
