Last featured here last month, a 68-acre farm near Inchigeelagh in West Cork is now going for public auction on Wednesday, October 22, at the Castle Hotel, Macroom.
The holding — 2km from Inchigeelagh, is a mixture of recently reseeded top-quality pasture, land in need of upgrading and rocky outcrop.
The property is divided into lots and has received offers on each lot, with significant interest also in the entire holding.
- Lot 1 consists of 23 acres with outbuildings and a derelict house. With a guide price of €200,000, its highest offer is €185,000;
- Lot 2 of 12.2 acres has a guide of €70,000 and is currently at €50,000;
- Lot 3 (6.5 acres) has a guide price of €50,000 and is at €55,000;
- Lot 4 (17.7 acres) is guiding €150,000 and is at €155,000;
- Lot 5 is the smallest lot of just 4.4 acres and stands at €50,000, exceeding its guide price of €45,000.
“It won’t be sold before the auction — it will be auctioned on the day,” said Macroom-based selling agent Killian Lynch.
“Although its currently making its guide price with the combination of offers, there’s interest from near and far and from all different aspects of life – hobby farmers, local farmers and others.”
Public auctions are becoming increasingly common, particularly in areas where there is a very brisk land market, such as this corner of West Cork.
The same agent is also selling another 4.7-acre piece of land in the heart of Ballingeary Village for €50,000.
