Coming up for public auction at the Talbot Hotel in Midleton on Wednesday, October 29 next at 3pm is a compact 17.4-acre land parcel in the fertile area of East Cork.

The property in question is at Ballymore on the island of Cobh in Cork Harbour. The town of Cobh is just a couple of kilometres to the west of this property past Cuskinny Beach and is a most sought-after part of the region, where land coming on the market is a rarity.

Given the relatively small dimensions of the property, there should be a good number of potentially interested parties turning up on the day.

According to Cork city-based auctioneer Michael McKenna, interest to date has been encouraging. This property has been anticipated for some time and the interest is mainly local, according to Michael.

“These are south-facing lands and are of excellent quality,” says Michael. “It’s all in one block, with free-draining soil and suitable for all farming enterprises.”

Last year, another rare land sale in Cobh very close to this one resulted in 70 acres fetching something in the region of €20,000/acre.

“I’d be hoping that this property will make something in that ball park too,” says Michael. “It may well make more but this is an executor sale and anything can happen on the day.”
