Last featured on these pages on July 17, a 124-acre farm at Killisk, near Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, was successfully sold at online auction on Tuesday, September 2.

The farm was sold in lots and was eagerly anticipated by a large number of clients — some of whom were attracted by the presence of large sand deposits on part of the holding.

Lot 1 was 25.6 acres, physically separate from the other lots and containing the best land. Its pre-auction guide was €12,000/acre. The other lots were guided in the region of €10,000/acre.

Lot 2 was a 7.7-acre lot containing derelict farmhouse and outbuildings.

Lot 3 consisted of 53 acres. Lot 4 was 14.7 acres Lot 5 had 23 acres and Lot 6 contained lots 2-5.

Bidding began on Lot 1 at €200,000 (€7,700/acre) but went quickly to €340,000. After a short break, bidding resumed apace and the hammer fell on €450,000 (over €17,500/acre).

Lots 2 to 5 were offered individually in the next round of bidding, amassing bids totalling €910,000.

The offer of the combination of these lots (which was Lot 6) exceeded that, netting €970,000 on the first round.

However, the second round settled the matter: Lots 2-5 fetched €985,000, but the hunger for Lot 6 proved too great and the hammer fell on a figure of €1,100,000 (€11,200/acre).

The overall price achieved was €1,550,000 (over €12,500/acre), with auctioneer David Quinn of Gorey-based Quinn Property saying that the owners were “absolutely thrilled with the outcome.”
