Ireland’s percentage of the EU average pig price is currently 102%, according to figures reported to the EU Commission for the week commencing June 28.

There was a disappointing 10c/kg drop in Irish pig prices last Friday, with producers reporting an average price of circa €2.18/kg. However, demand remains strong for Irish-born and reared pigs, and consumption volumes are up on the Irish retail market.

Across Europe, prices were mixed: Denmark down 7c, Germany down 15c, Netherlands down 15c, France up 3c, Spain no change (€2.36), Britain down 2p (£2.41).
