Pesticide products available to Irish farmers falls sharply

Only eight countries used less pesticides than Ireland in 2023.

It is now harder for Irish growers to find plant protection products, with only 95 products authorised for sale here in 2024, compared to 203 in 2017.

There are indications Ireland has cut back pesticide use more than most EU member states, with Eurostat revealing a 38% Irish pesticide sales reduction from 2011 to 2023, the most recent year for which the EU figures are available.
