Tech to help assess scale of storm damage

The devastation caused by Storm Éowyn at Killykeen Forest Park, Co Cavan, is obvious as fallen trees block paths marked out for walkers and walkers have been advised not to enter the park for their own safety.

The mammoth task of assessing the devastation caused to the country’s forestry plantations by Storm Éowyn is being aided by satellite imagery and drones, but it will take some time to complete.

Entire plantations were felled in some places, with record-breaking wind gusts of up to 183 kilometers (114 miles) recorded.
