Looking up: Beef prices continue on the up as prices approach €7/kg
Add in the quality assurance bonus and, in the case of both Angus and Hereford, the generous breed bonus currently applying, and the gap on reaching €7/kg is getting very narrow, writes Martin Ryan.
Beef prices at the factories are only going one way, and they are continuing to move in an upward direction week after week as the competition for available stock remains intense.
Finishers who are familiar with struggling to make a margin because of poor prices are now pinching themselves to justify that it's for real in their lifetime that producers wouldn't accept a base of €6/kg from the processors.
