Lighter weights are wiping out any potential increased return

The surge in supply came on the back of a downturn in weather and concern for deteriorating ground conditions on farms.

Base prices for beef animals at the factories are holding steady, with quotes largely unchanged for the past three weeks, which is taken as a bonus for producers at this time of the season.

The steers continue to be quoted at 500-505 cents/kg and heifers of 505-510 cents/kg. The factories are trying to get stock as near the lower end of the quotes as possible while getting above the upper end of the quote range is quite difficult these weeks.
