Why ditching twice-a-day milkings might make sense for you

In New Zealand, less than half the farmers are milking twice a day for the full year round.

“If you look at the data coming from New Zealand, less than half the farmers are milking twice a day for the full year round”, said Senior Researcher Dr Emer Kennedy of Teagasc Moorepark, in a recent Dairy Edge podcast on reduced milking frequency.

“About 10% are milking once a day on a full-time basis, and the rest are doing three in two [three milkings in two days], or some sort of combination of flexible milking”, said Dr Kennedy.
